DIAMONDS

Celebrated and sought after since antiquity, diamonds are steeped in romance and mystique, and have become synonymous with everlasting love. The hardest substance known to mankind, diamonds are made of pure carbon that crystallised in the bowels of the earth over a billion years ago. “A girls best friend” – yes - and yet there is nothing elusive about a diamond. These are the most valuable of gemstones - but what is it that determines a diamond’s value?

Simply put, the four C’s are used worldwide when purchasing a diamond …

  • Carat – the weight of the diamond
  • Colour – the degree to which the diamond is colourless
  • Clarity – the inclusions or lack of inclusions found in your stone
  • Cut – the way angles and proportions of the stone are cut or polished

What we don’t necessarily know is that even though a diamond may have superior colour and clarity, its value can be significantly undermined by a poor cut.

The four C’s all determine the worth of a diamond, but the cut of the stone, the only aspect influenced by man, can greatly affect the diamonds brilliance, scintillation, beauty and value. Visit www.saideal cut for more information; or pop in to see us!
